Ange Postecoglou vows to take Tottenham in ‘new direction’ as he emphasises need for excitement

nge Postecoglou has vowed to create a Tottenham side that the fans “get excited by” as sent a message to the club’s supporters.

The Australian was confirmed as Spurs’ new manager earlier this week, signing a four-year contract to bring an end to a process that has seen Cristian Stellini and then Ryan Mason take interim charge following the departure of Antonio Conte.

Postecoglou arrives in north London after a two-year spell as Celtic boss, during which he won five trophies including a domestic treble this season.

His challenge is now to bring that attacking style of play to Tottenham, where fans have had to endure some fairly turgid football under Conte and even during Jose Mourinho’s reign in the recent past.

A return to front-foot tactics will certainly be welcomed by the Spurs faithful, and Postecoglou emphasised just how important it was for the club to go in a “new direction” as Tottenham released a video message from the new manager.

“Hi everyone, it’s great to finally get started as manager of this great football club,” Postecoglou said.

“I’m really looking forward to our task asked. I think it’s an exciting opportunity for us to now sort off set off in a new direction. Play football and create an environment that embodies the values and traditions of this fantastic football club.

“Hopefully a team that you can all be proud of and more importantly get excited by.

“I can assure that right through pre-season, we won’t leave any stone unturned, myself, the staff and the players, to make sure that when the league comes around that you’ll all be excited as I am about the season ahead.

“So I really look forward to seeing everyone and the stadium in particular at our first home game, and look forward to the journey ahead.”
