iorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi was struck in the head by a plastic cup in the first half of the Europa Conference League final against West Ham.

The 30-year-old jogged over to take a corner in front of the West Ham end of the Eden Arena in Prague and was hit with a plastic cup thrown from the crowd.

The object hit Biraghi directly on the scalp and caused a small gash, leading to blood pouring down the back of his head and neck.

Proceedings were briefly called to a halt as the player received treatment and a stadium announcement said: “An important security announcement. Stop throwing objects onto the pitch. Please respect players and the officials.”

La Viola’s captain required treatment after the flying object drew blood as Nayef Aguerd, Lucas Paqueta and Vladimir Coufal pleaded with fans to stop throwing the cups.

The first half then resumed as normal.
