Daniel Levy explains why Tottenham have appointed Ange Postecoglou as manager

ottenham chairman Daniel Levy told supporters that Ange Postecoglou will bring “a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play” to the club after the Australian was appointed as the new Spurs head coach on a four-year deal.

Spurs have confirmed the appointment of Postecoglou, ending their 72-day search for a permanent successor to Antonio Conte - exactly the same amount of time as it took to replace Jose Mourinho with Nuno Espirito Santo two years ago.

Postecoglou joins from Celtic after winning a domestic Treble in Scotland and will immediately start planning for next season ahead of a huge summer for Spurs.

Levy has been under pressure from fans to appoint a manager with a reputation for playing the “free-flowing, attacking and entertaining” football he said that he wanted when he was looking for a successor to Mourinho in 2021.

Postecoglou sets his teams up to play on the front foot and Levy believes he can bring the good times back to Spurs after a difficult few years.

Levy said: “Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy - everything that is important to our club.

“We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Handing Postecoglou a longer-term contact until 2027 is a show of faith in the 57-year-old, who has said in the past that it takes him time to fully implement his methods.

Postecoglou takes over with Spurs at their lowest ebb in years, having missed on European qualification after a disappointing season.

One of his most pressing issues to address is the future of Harry Kane after Real Madrid joined Manchester United in the race to sign the England captain.

Levy is determined to hold on to Kane, who he values at more than £100million, but Real are set to test that resolve after Karim Benzema announced he is leaving the Bernabeu.

Postecoglou is yet to confirm his backroom staff but it is thought he wants to bring John Kennedy, his assistant at Celtic, to Spurs.
