Kieran Tierney told bench role awaits at Newcastle if Arsenal sanction transfer exit

ieran Tierney has been told he would only feature on the bench for Newcastle United were he to leave Arsenal this summer.
The Scotland international is tempted by the idea of joining Eddie Howe’s side following their qualification for the Champions League.
There is significant interest in the former Celtic defender, who has lost his place in the starting lineup to the influential Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Newcastle have been alerted to his situation in north London and it is understood the 26-year-old would consider an offer from the Magpies.
Arsenal, however, are in a strong bargaining position. Tierney still has three years to run on his contract and they would want more than the £25m they paid to sign the player in 2019.
Still, former Newcastle midfielder Didi Hamann believes the Scotland star would struggle to oust Dan Burn as the starting left-back at St James’ Park.
“Dan Burn has played very well at left-back”, the German told Casinos En Ligne.
“If Kieran Tierney was to go to Newcastle United because he’s a part-time player at Arsenal, would it be any different at Newcastle?
“The defence and back four have been sensational this season. I can understand why Eddie Howe would want him because he’s a very good player to have in your squad, but it remains to be seen if he’s happy to stay as second choice, behind Burn.
“Burn is doing a fantastic job at left-back, especially for someone of his height. You have to have him in the team because he guarantees goals and defending in set pieces, it would be mighty tough for Tierney to get in the team.”
