afael Nadal has undergone athroscopic surgery on the hip injury he suffered at the Australian Open.

Nadal has not played since picking up the injury in Melbourne and, despite a series of different treatment plans, has not played since.

The issue ruled the 22-time Grand Slam champion out of competing at the current French Open where he has won 14 of his major titles.

Nadal’s team confirmed the surgery, which was completed by three doctors, had taken place in Barcelona.

And he is expected to be able to divulge more details of the results on Saturday, the date of his 37th birthday.

Question marks have been raised over his future in the sport because of the four month lay-off with his current injury.

He hinted he was potentially unlikely to play again in 2023 but said he had ambitions to have a final competitive year on tour next season.
