West Ham confirm decision over David Moyes future after Europa Conference League triumph

There were suggestions that the Scot could be moved on this summer regardless of the result against Fiorentina in Prague

est Ham chairman David Sullivan says David Moyes will stay on as manager next season.

Moyes guided West Ham to their first major trophy for 43 years on Wednesday night, when they beat Fiorentina 2-1 in the final of the Europa Conference League in Prague.

While it was Moyes’s first major honour in his 1,099th match as a football manager, there had been some speculation that he might be moved on from his post irrespective of the result in the final, due to a faltering season in the Premier League in which the Hammers spent much of the campaign near the relegation zone before eventually finishing 14th.

Yet Sullivan, in an interview with talkSPORT, confirmed the Scot would be kept on as West Ham’s head coach until next summer at the earliest, provided he wants to stay put.

“We believed in him”, said Sullivan. “We came in for a lot of pressure from supporters, the press and everyone who seemed mad on making changes but we believe in honouring contracts.

“David had a contract with us, and has a contract with us until next summer — and next summer we’ll look at it again. Until then, if he wants to remain as manager then he will remain as manager of West Ham.”
